원샷 (won-syat) is a Korean expression borrowed from the English “one shot”. While the term roughly translates to “bottoms up” when drinking together, its meaning has also adapted to the local context. Won-Syat Is both an example of the intertwined influence of different cultures and the way the relations among them create new meanings. Here is also a nod to the photographic speed under which the students from the ECAL Master Photography had to produce their “one shot” explorations of Korean culture, relating it to their personal stories, backgrounds and cultural filters.
The graphic design mirrors this using a type alluding to the whirlwind of excessive drinking placed on top of images from the works exhibited. This immense variety of backdrops used for the same poster were taken from the artworks and represents the overflow of visual information experienced by the students on their trip.
